Dr. Michael Lardon

Dr. Michael Lardon is such a hip psychiatrist, it makes me wonder how it ever became uncool to have a few mental health challenges.

I had a great time collaborating with him on his website and medical illustrations for his sports psychiatry practice.

Dr. Lardon travels the world with his clients, who include athletes on the PGA Golf Tour, the US Olympic Team, as well as professional baseball and football teams. He has been written about in Sports Illustrated and Golf World Magazine.

He has some fascinating tales to tell about life in the sports world.

My favorite is that of Olympian Jimmy Shea, whose grandfather was killed by a drunk driver just before the Olympic Games many years ago.

Dr. Lardon suggested that to honor his grandfathers memory, and cope with his greif, that he put a picture of his grandfather in his helmut the day of his skeleton race, to have his grandfather with him in spirit.

In what became an iconic moment in Olympic history, Jimmy Shea won the gold medal that day, and took the picture out of his helmut and waved it to the world.

Check out Dr. Lardon's website, it's a great read.
