I worked as an airport paramedic at Lindbergh Field in San Diego during the early 90's. I had a painting easel set up at the Airport Fire Station, where I made paintings of airplanes between calls.
One day a lady from the airport management drove by and saw all of the paintings, and asked who had done them. I thought I was in trouble for my illegal photo studio, but she said no, that I had done good.
The following week the paintings were sent to an airport management meeting, where I explained how much I like to paint on duty, and have the fire captain clean my brushes and they said, "Let's make posters."
So the paintings were made into posters and hung throughout the airport.
So it was the management of San Diego Airport who talked me into having a career as a poster designer.
