These were shots I took at the 2005 Los Angeles Music Awards on November 9th, 2005 in Hollywood, California at the Music Box Theater.

This night went beyond taking pictures for me. Musically speaking, I can't say I've ever enjoyed an evening more...

The Michael Smith Band of West Virginia, rocked my world.... and I don't even like country or bluegrass, but when these guys played, "No Place Like Home," I nearly fell out of my chair. Backstage, I asked the lead singer where I could buy a CD, and he told me they weren't available yet. But I fell all over myself gushing like a groupie, and about an hour later, he came up and gave me a CD to take home. Biggest thrill of year.

A band called Outlett, was a fabulous mix of tribal, funk, rock, punk... I don't know what ... but was incredible to listen to, and photograph. The lead singer, Chastity Ashley, sang, played a drum wildly, and rocked the house. Magnetic and powerful performance. Go see her.

Meanwhile backstage, an incredible impromptu jam between Krassimir, with Javier Otero and Karen Briggs, and Hydrophonix, was why I didn't photograph half the awards show. Whoopsie. My bad.

Wicked Relish, you rock, and you are nice guys besides that.

And on a personal note, it was an honor to meet the legendary musician and artist, Walter Egan, who performed with Burrito Deluxe. Check out Walter Egan's website and Walternative.com to read his amazing story. He is not only abundantly talented, but truly understands the meaning of living large.

What is the Los Angeles Music Awards?

It's a great concept dreamed up by a man by the name of Al Bowman, (pictured at left) who basically brings acts from around the country, some known, and others who need to be launched from obscurity, for an amazing night of music in Los Angeles, California.

Each year he receives demos from thousands of artists hoping to be the next to perform at this wonderful show. I love his taste, and the diverse mix of talent he brought together for a spectacular evening of entertainment. If you ever get a chance to go to an Al Bowman event, check it out, you won't be disappointed.
